Raise Awareness of ESG/SDGs

The Japan Times has been participating in the SDG Media Compact since January 2020 in response to the demand from the United Nations.
As a media organization, we are committed to supporting sustainable development and contributing to the advancement of knowledge on how to achieve the SDGs, as well as stimulating public dialogue on how to solve the 17 issues of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including poverty, climate change, and hunger.


Sustainable Japan Network

In October 2020, in search of a new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Japan Times launched the Sustainable Japan Network at the Japan Times Cube Ltd. to convey what is happening in Japan and how Japan can contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

Starting with key people who have been active in Japan and overseas since 2018, activities of the Japan Times ESG Consortium and Satoyama Consortium have been disseminated overseas by networking companies and organizations that have been active in various ways toward the realization of a sustainable society. Combining these, Information on their activities is published every Monday in The Japan Times, once a month in Sustainable Japan Magazine (in Japanese and English), and on our website.

A:Publishing the monthly Sustainable Japan Magazine (in English and Japanese)
On the theme of “Thinking about ESG/SDGs in daily life”, this is a lifestyle tabloid published once a month.
This supplement is inserted with The Japan Times Weekend edition (published every Saturday).

B: Providing opportunities to share information in English
・Introducing the activities of companies and organizations through various events and features
・The English press releases posting service “comfacts”

C:Organizing the Sustainable Japan Award
Awards are presented once a year, based on the concept of Sustainable Japan, to companies and organizations that have conducted unique activities and implemented advanced sustainability initiatives.

Promoting Telework

We flexibly accommodate teleworking according to the work situation/ shifts, family circumstances, as well as allowing employees to work entirely from home.

Balancing Work and Childcare

We have created an environment that allows employees to consult with us on various childcare resources, from taking leave for childbirth to working shorter hours. Male employees have also returned to work after one year of childcare leave.
